Review: 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport

The 2018 Santa Fe Sport is No. 1 in its class in horsepower, according to Kelley Blue Book. The base engine is a 2.4-liter inline-4 that produces an impressive 185 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. There’s also a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 option that makes 240 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Both options come standard with a 6-speed Shiftronic automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, with available all-wheel drive.

The regular engine gets an EPA-estimated 21 MPG city and 27 MPG highway, while the turbocharged option gets up to 20 MPG city and 28 MPG highway.

Safety and Tech

The Hyundai crossover comes in three trims: Sport, Sport 2.0T, and Sport 2.0T Ultimate. All models of the 2018 Santa Fe Sport come available with Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane Change Assist, a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, and a Multi-View Camera System. Each trim also comes with the option for LED daytime running lights, auto-dimming mirrors and Blue Link Telematics System, Connected Care, Remote, and Guidance Packages. Upper trims are available with Smart Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, High Beam Assist, and Dynamic Bending Lights.

While the 2018 model year has not yet been tested by safety organizations, the 2017 model was named a Top Safety Pick+ (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and received a best-possible 5-Star Overall Rating (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration).

Comfort and Convenience

Each trim is available with a panoramic sunroof and dual-front automatic temperature control with CleanAir ionizer. For seating, you can choose between YES Essentials stain-resistant cloth or leather surfaces. The Santa Fe Sport comes with the option for heated front and rear seats, heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, and an Integrated Memory System for the driver’s seat and mirrors.

For your entertainment, the 2018 Hyundai is available with Sirius XM Radio, 12-speaker Infinity Premium Audio with QuantumLogic Surround and Clari-Fi Music Restoration Tech, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and navigation system.
